The Learning Collaborative recognizes that engaged parents raise successful students. Our Family School Readiness Program merges concern for the child with concern for the family. We combine classes on self- sufficiency skills with classes on school readiness. In lieu of paying tuition, TLC parents must volunteer a minimum of seven hours each month per enrolled child to assist in the classroom, lending library, office, or anywhere as needed. Being at the preschool allows the teachers and staff to model behaviors that increase learning potential. We coach parents through parent- teacher conferences, guiding them through the partnership that should exist between a parent and the child’s teacher.
Through collaboration with Charlotte programs such as Parent University, we offer a variety of parenting and life-skills classes. Through these efforts, parents become active participants in the school and are stronger first teachers to their children.
